Mid century artists of various genres have been a significant influence on my artistic expression. The drama, energy and emotion of abstract expressionist painters along with the lively works of: Picasso; Matisse and Miro inspired me. Just as important to my direction were, Ronald Searle and Edward Gorey. Both were geniuses of wry wit and extraordinary decorative illustration skills. Searle and Gorey both implemented macabre overtones in their works including with their hilarious cats! Publications of their works display their techniques of achieving cartoon like stories with black ink lines and textures. In particular, Ronald Searle’s, The Belles of Trinians, a perfect example of his style.
My work has been shown and sold in over seventy galleries around the US and I hold a BFA in illustration from Syracuse University, Connie Carroll.
